About Me In case you haven't guessed already, I'm a guitarist. I started playing when I was 17 years old and the first things I learned were songs. I had quite wide listening tastes and didn't restrict myself to any particular style or artist. I learnt lots of pop; rock; funk; punk; soul; folk - you name it I learnt it especially if a guitar was on the recording. I just ate it up. After I'd been playing for three or four years I decided that I wanted to learn more about music, not just the guitar. I went and enrolled for a music course at Goldsmiths on the Jazz and Popular Music Course. I did that for three years, covering everything from repertoire (jazz and pop), writing, scoring, arranging, rhythm studies, aural training, ensemble playing and of course guitar. On the side I also studied some classical music especially Bach (Lute suites), Villa Lobos, Tarrega etc. Whilst at Goldsmiths I got what I would consider my first session working for the BBC on their education programmes For Schools. The TV show was called Music Time. It was only a couple of dates but was fun and the money wasn't bad. I'd played in quite a lot of bands but nothing especially serious, so this represented quite a big step. After leaving Goldsmiths I began to work more frequently, partly as a player and educator but most of all I had a passion for writing/arranging and recording. I wrote and recorded loads at home, practising parts, trying to get things in one good take, trying to work out what made a 'sound'. Some of the people I ended up working with or for include De La Soul, Beats International, MicroGroove, Freak Power, Ephraim Lewis, Eusebe, Bond, Karen Ramirez and Elisha La'Verne to name but a few. About The Music My debut album represents many things that have touched me. Whether it's a simple melody with a complex harmony to intricate electronic soundscapes. This can all be found on this album. Like all artists I hate boxes but, if I had to put the album in a category, I'd say Jazz. Others who have heard it have said it's chill out or ambient or downtempo or electronica. It's all of these things and more. You can listen to three songs here |
